ANDREW AHN "SPA NIGHT"
Back in 2014, I interviewed Korean American Filmmaker Andrew Ahn for my show, "Halo Halo with Kat Iniba" to promote his crowdfunding campaign for his debut feature film, "Spa Night".
"Spa Night" follows the story of David, an 18 year old Korean American, who decides to take a on a new job at an all-male Korean Spa to help with his family's finances. David soon discovers that the spa is also a secret place for gay men to hook up. This intrigues him because he is a closeted gay Korean American. The film touches on topics of self-acceptance, as well as dealing with parental expectations and personal desires.
During my interview with Director and Writer Andrew Ahn (2014), he dished that the movie was partially inspired by his own story. Ahn previously used his short film, "Dol," a Sundance Film Festival selection, to come out to his own family.
"Spa Night" is Andrew's debut feature film and has garnered many honors including - the US Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance at the Sundance Film Festival 2016, Grand Jury Prize for Outfest 2016, Jury Special Mention at Outfest 2016 and being an Official Selection for Sundance 2016.
The theatrical release of "Spa Night" will kick off in New York and Los Angeles, Friday, August 26th and will also be released throughout the United States. For more information, to preorder your DVD, and to check if the film is screening near you, you can go to strandreleasing.com/films/spa-night/
